January-March Reading Wrap Up & TBR List

I did my first wrap up and TBR video on my YouTube channel this week. If you're not familiar with the world of BookTube then here is what you need to know:

  • A wrap up is usually a monthly video that BookTubers put on their YouTube channel, talking about the books they've read that month. I decided to do mine every three months because I only get the time to film and upload one video a week and I didn't want it to be too repetitive every month.
  • TBR stands for 'To Be Read', so a BookTuber may include a selection of TBR books that they want to try and read over the coming month - or in my case the next three months.

Here is my latest video, sharing all of the books I've read so far this year, the book that I'm currently reading and some that I want to try and read soon:

Film Review: The Lost City of Z

Another cinema trip this Friday and this time we went to see The Lost City of Z. I remember hearing about this film when it was first announced, because I'd heard Benedict Cumberbatch was meant to be starring in it originally, but he was replaced by Charlie Hunnam. I don't know if this was due to scheduling conflicts but the main point is that things changed.

The cast list was actually a really good one, with Sienna Miller, Tom Holland and Robert Pattinson. I was really impressed with everyone's on-screen performance.

Beauty and the Beast Book Tag

This week's YouTube video is a book tag. If you don't know what a book tag is, it is a series of questions that link to a book, a film, music, whatever. My first book tag on my YouTube channel was the GoodReads tag, where I answered questions related to the GoodReads website/app. Today I'm sharing my Beauty and the Beast tag, to fall alongside the release of Disney's live-action movie.

Film Review: Beauty and the Beast

It's finally here! After that long wait from when they first announced that this film was in pre-production, it is now in cinemas. Obviously, I went along on opening night (did you expect anything less from me?) and when I got back last night I quickly wrote down everything so that I could try and form a review for you today. I wanted to start writing it last night but I don't think any of it would have truly made sense and it would have just been a big jumble. So now I'm going to give it my best go.

Let's start with the casting...

My Monthly Favourites: February 2017

It's a few days later than I would've like, but here are my February favourites:

This Collection Lasting Perfection concealer has been popular on the YouTube makeup scene for a long time but I've only just started to use it. I was in desperate need of a new concealer and I decided to try a new one. Enter Collection's famous concealer. I picked up the 'fair' one because it's so brightening, but I don't like it for right underneath my eyes as it can be quite drying on me. It's brilliant for brightening underneath my eyes, but only using a tiny bit on top of another concealer. I also use it down my nose and a little bit on my chin. Buy it here.

I've been loving this Revlon lipstick in the shade 'Pink In The Afternoon'. I wear it on it's own if I want to go for more pink or it's nice over the top of MAC Modesty, which I've done most days. My mum gave me this lipstick because after buying it she decided it was too pink for her. Buy it here.

Film Review: Lion

I know, this film has been out for two months and I've only just seen it. Bad film reviewer. I definitely lost credibility points here, but at least I've finally seen it now. So many people have been saying "Oh Janay, you've seen Lion, haven't you?" and then I looked like a complete lemon when I have to say no.

So, I've seen it now and here is what I thought of it...

Film Review: Kong: Skull Island

Yes, it's finally here! I've been waiting for this movie for a long time. It also featured in my 'Films I'm excited for in 2017' post back in January. Not only was I excited for this film because it has one of my favourite actors, Tom Hiddleston, in it but the trailers have also been incredible.

Celebrating 225 Years of WHSmith: Our Favourite Books

WHSmith are celebrating their 225th anniversary and to kick things off this year they asked people to share their favourite books. Read the WHSmith blog post here.

I got involved and got people talking about their favourites. So, let's get on to the answers I got to the following two questions, as asked by WHSmith:

  • What is your favourite fiction book written in the last 225 years?
  • What is your favourite children's book written in the last 225 years?

Here are the responses for favourite fiction book:

Film Review: Logan

Hi everyone! First of all I have to apologise for being M.I.A this past week. I've been so busy with work, I was vlogging last weekend and we also had a funeral to attend midweek. I've had to neglect my blog a little in order to get those important things done but now I'm back!

First of all, I've actually been to the cinema between watching Fifty Shades Darker and Logan, but it was to see the Broadway production of Newsies, which was shown in cinemas around the world last month. I've chosen not to review that as a film because it was a Broadway show rather than a movie, but it will be featuring in my monthly favourites - which will go live in the next few days - so, if you want to find out more about it you can keep an eye out for that.

Now, on with this film review...

Again, if you know anything about me and my love of movies then you will know that I'm a huge Marvel fan. Mainly for the MCU films by Marvel Studios but I like the X-Men franchise as well... and a few of the past Spider-Man films (not all of them).

Just by being a Marvel film automatically makes me think that I'm going to adore it and end up giving it a high rating, so I went into the cinema with high hopes for Logan. I love Hugh Jackman, he has done a fantastic job at portraying the legendary Wolverine over the years, and with this set to be his last film I knew they had to do the character justice.
