My Monthly Favourites: August 2016

Here are my monthly favourites for August...

Maybelline matte liquid lipsticks are a new addition to the collection, and I've been liking matte lips a bit more recently. I've always thought they'd be really drying but I've found a few that really work, and this is one of them. I only had reds, pinks and corals up until I decided to buy one of the Maybelline ones, so I picked up the nude-brown colour called 'Nude Thrill'. It feels lovely and dries to a matte finish pretty quickly. I wore it out to dinner last week, had two courses and a drink, and I still had colour on my lips by the end of the meal. Buy it here.

Living with Psoriasis

I've been meaning to post this for a while now but I wanted to make sure I got it just right before sharing. I've been suffering with psoriasis for around four and a half years now and this has meant seeing a large number of doctors and dermatologists, trying a number of creams and treatments, and learning to cope with the fact that this is something that can only be calmed and not cured.

I've put together five headings below that break down the areas I feel have an impact on my psoriasis and how I try to cope with it.

I'm Loving: 'Tanya Bakes' by Tanya Burr

This blog post was meant to go up during the week but as the weather was so lovely this week I ended up out with my family for a forest walk on Tuesday, had a picnic by the sea on Wednesday and on Thursday Clay and I went to see Motown the musical in the West End. So I'm finally getting this post done, a few days later than planned, but at least I got it done.

When this book came out at the end of June I was so excited to spend the month of July baking treats. Working in a school meant that the month of July is quite busy with transitions and moving around for children and staff, amongst other bits, so I didn't get to do the baking as soon as I would have liked, but it wasn't vital to my life or job so it got set back.

I then thought as soon as we break up for the summer I would get on it, but ended up being so busy with wedding planning (less than nine weeks to go now!) and other things, so again it got put off.

I've finally gotten around to having a go at a few of the recipes now and wanted to feedback on what I'd tried and how I got on with them. I like baking but I wouldn't say I was great at it, so it was nice to take this time to have a go.

Film Review: Swallows and Amazons

I didn't even know they were making this into a film until I saw a trailer for it when I was in the cinema last month and I was literally bouncing about in my chair and feeling pure admiration for the person who chose to make this into a movie. I loved the book, and I actually read it again earlier in the year for my Children's Literature module with the Open University, so it was a lovely surprise to see this was coming out. Typically, I went to see it on opening night because I couldn't wait.

So, here is my review of this pirate-filled children's classic, set in the Lake District...

Film Review: Bad Moms

I was so excited to have the chance to see Bad Moms at an advanced screening with Cineworld. Cineworld occasionally do screenings like this if you are a Cineworld unlimited card holder. It's so worth signing up for if you know you'll see at least two films every month. I go at least once a week, sometimes more depending on what's been released and how much time I have to spare. Plus, if there is a film you want to see more than once you don't feel like you're wasting your money. For example, I saw Captain America: Civil War eight times but it didn't cost me £80, it only cost £17.40 a month! If you want to check out any information about the Cineworld unlimited card, click here. (Please note: I'm not paid to say this, I just really love the card!)

Anyway, enough about my Marvel addiction, let's get on with this review!

Film Review: Pete's Dragon

I didn't even know they were remaking this movie until the first trailer was released, and since then I've been so excited to see it. So here is my review for Disney's latest live-action remake (unfortunately, without a real dragon!)

Five Ways To: Use Coconut Oil

I love coconut oil. I know some people are saying it's just a phase and that there isn't anything to really back up that it's better than some other oils, but I have loved it since I first used it. Coconut oil can be used for so many things. I once came across a web article about '101 things coconut oil can be used for'. Well, I thought it might be a little excessive to list that many things to use it for here, so I've decided to share the five ways that I use coconut oil every single week. In fact, I do most of these things with coconut oil every day.

So, here are my top five ways to put coconut oil to good use:

My Monthly Favourites: July 2016

Here are my monthly favourites for July (a little late but nevermind!)

I have been using this blusher almost every day this month. It's in the shade 'blushing heart' and it's just so pretty. You can mix all three colours or use just one, but they all have a lovely shimmer to them which is nice for summertime. Plus, if you're in a rush you can use this and skip the highlighter. Buy it and shop the other shades here.

Film Review: Suicide Squad

So I was one of the lucky ones who got to go to the first showing at midnight last night! Very exciting. I've only done one other midnight showing this year, which was Batman v Superman, because these are the only two that have fallen during school holidays. You don't understand how gutted I was that I couldn't do Captain America: Civil War at midnight because it was a work day, and also I was deaf in one ear as it was blocked, but I'd have still gone!

Anyway, back to the world of DC movies. I read the reviews on Tuesday night that really put this film down. I obviously still wanted to see for myself, but it made me feel like I might be wasting my time. I'm a Marvel girl through and through so part of me is always going to say 'it will never be as good as a Marvel film' but I still want it to be good because I love superhero movies and this kind of thing, so we took a trip at midnight down to Cineworld. I've got to hand it to the staff at Cineworld, they went all out with their costumes!

WHSmith Zoella Book Club: Review (Books 1-4)

I have been loving the Zoella Book Club with WHSmith. I posted about it back in June here, and now we are at the halfway mark. I decided when I started this book club that I would review all of the books and give you my views on them all, as well as sharing my input to the book club nights on WHSmith's Twitter. The book club nights on Twitter were brilliant, although I was gutted to miss the third one, discussing We Were Liars, as I had to be at work late.

I read the first four books in the order of the book club:
(You can buy the complete eight-book bundle here)

So let's get started with the reviews and Twitter chat! Before continuing please be aware that there are some spoilers ahead.

Film Review: Jason Bourne

I've never been a massive fan of the Bourne films. I don't think I've ever managed to sit and watch one the whole way through to be honest, which is very unlike me and considering the kind of action-packed films they are, you'd think I'd love them.

I like Matt Damon - especially in The Martian - so I decided when this new film was set to be released that I would catch up on the story and go and see Jason Bourne on opening night.
