I'm Excited For: Crimson Peak

I have been missing from my blog for over for a while but I am back! I've just been so busy with getting ready to move into mine and Clay's first house, work has been rather full-on lately, and on top of that I'm trying to write my final assignment for this year's university course.

But I am back and this post is - as it says in the title - to tell you just how excited I am for Guillermo Del Toro's latest film 'Crimson Peak'.

Anyone who knows me really well would probably say 'Why are you excited about this? You hate horror films.' Yes, that is true that I am not a fan of horror films. Zombies terrify me! I even struggle to watch 'Shaun of the Dead' so clearly they are not my thing. Anything jumpy is my worst nightmare, and if I ever have to watch something remotely scary it has to be during the day - never at night - and sometimes somebody has to sleep in my bed with me for that night.

But I saw the first teaser trailer for this film a few months ago and thought it looked good, despite the obvious ghostly happenings and the signs of a lot of blood. But yesterday when the international and theatrical trailers were released I watched it and just knew I had to see it.

You can watch the International trailer and the Theatrical trailer here.

Guillermo Del Toro (pictured below) is an amazing director, and as a lover of action movies I thought his last film, 'Pacific Rim', was great. Knowing that a well-known, popular director is at the forefront of is enough to make me want to see a film.

So, even though this film is under the genre of horror and has been awarded an '18' certificate for viewing because of bloody violence, sexual scenes, and some strong language, I have decided that I'm going to be brave and see this. But it will most likely be after Halloween, during the day, and knowing that Clay will be with me when I go to sleep. No doubt I will have trouble sleeping after it because my brain will be constantly ticking and I'll be doing that think where you hear every little noise, but I'll deal with that when the time comes!

The main appeal for me in this film though are the acting stars, Tom Hiddleston in particular. I am a huge fan of Jessica Chastain, and I know Mia Wasikowska from the live-action remake of 'Alice in Wonderland' and 'Only Lovers Left Alive', which also stared Tom Hiddleston.

I've seen almost every film that Tom as been in, with my favourites being 'War Horse' (also staring my other favourite Benedict Cumberbatch), 'Midnight in Paris', and the Marvel movies 'Thor', 'Avengers Assemble', and 'Thor: The Dark World'.

This film may appear to be mostly about death, blood, gore, ghosts, and other horrible things but after seeing the two new trailers I have been completely sucked in by the story. I am desperate to know why Lucille (played by Miss Chastain) seems so eerie and does not appear to like Edith (played by Miss Wasikowska). At times it appears that Thomas (played by Mr Hiddleston) is genuinely in love with Edith and some parts made me feel as if he had lured her there for another purpose. I need to know who is behind the goings-on in the house and what happens with Thomas and Edith. I have a few ideas from the very short, quick glimpses of scenes shown in the trailers but I think I'll keep them to myself for now.

Del Toro described this film as a 'gothic romance', so I am hoping this is one that I will be able to sit through. I have a feeling I'll be fine, knowing that my favourite actor is in it and with my need to know the storyline.

Will you be seeing 'Crimson Peak' in October? What did you think of the trailers? Did you find it creepy, scary, or enticing?
